Dollars for Doers

Dollars for Doers

August 2020

Thanks Rio Tinto for recognising and encouraging employees to give back to their communities.  We are the grateful recipients of a $500 Dollars for Doers grant thanks to Group Committee Chair, Helen Fernihough, recognised for the many hours she puts into our scout group, both through her role as Chair of the Committee and her enthusiasm at many events and activities throughout the year.

“We will use these funds for a specific project or activity – stay tuned.”

We’re excited to become part of the St John First Responder System with the installation of a defribillator on the outsider wall of the Scout Water Activity Centre in Como.  Thanks to St John Ambulance and Lotterywest for assistance via the Lotterywest Heart Grant.  Visit St John’s WA for more information on the first responder program and to download the App which shows the location of all registered community defribillators.

Volunteer Grant

Timely boost for our volunteers

May 2020

Thanks to the Australian Government Volunteer Grants we have $5,000 to spend towards helping our volunteers.  We will be using the funds for first aid equipment, kitchen appliances, cleaning equipment, gardening and maintenance tools.  Thanks also to Steve Irons and his staff for their support and assistance in putting our grant application together.

“The equipment we buy with these funds is really going to make life easier for our volunteers”

Commonwealth Bank Community Grant

An early Christmas present, thanks Commonwealth Bank

December 2019

Christmas came early for our Group this year with a surprise community grant from our local Commonwealth Bank Branch.  Pictured is our Group Leader, Ian Case, receiving a $500 cheque from local Branch Manager, Vanessa Walker.

“A welcome surprise from our local Commonwealth Bank.  Thanks for recognising the great work we are doing with youth in our community.”

New storage cupboards

Thanks City of Canning for our new storage cupboards

November 2019

Thank you to City of Canning for providing ANOTHER grant to us for new steel storage cupboards. These lockable cupboards will improve the security of our storage facilities and stow potentially hazardous items more safely. Thanks City of Canning!

“These cupboards will allow us to store our gear more securely”

Thanks Bunnings Cannington

Thanks Bunnings Cannington

August 2019

Thank you Bunnings Cannington for your donation of equipment to help fix our leaky sea container.

The donation included fixing, hardwire, timber and steel purlins.

“This donation will lead to more storage at our Canning Hall for our sailing and camping equipment”

Fleet Upgrade

Fleet Upgrade (new trailer)

July 2019

We’re excited to show off our latest sailing fleet upgrade, thanks to the City of Canning’s grants program.  Also a big thanks to our Scout Leader, Bagzie, who has been busy overseeing the build at Papas Trailers and personally fabricating and fitting the extra side rests.

“Our new trailer will enable us to get Witch Doctor in and out of the water with ease.”

New Sails

New sails as part of a renewal program

August 2018

Our troop has received ten new sails, the first part of a substantial renewal program funded by grants from Lotterywest and City of Canning.  The grants cover new sails for five boats and masts for two.

We’ve spend so much much time repairing the old equipment over the last few years, and it was getting harder and harder.

“Some of our old sails and masts have been with us for decades, and even then they were bought or donated second hand so an update was well overdue”

New Equipment

Latest goodies from the City of Canning Grants Program

January 2018

In the past year we’ve been fortunate to have received a number of grants from the City of Canning’s generous grants program.  These grants have been used to purchase new camping and sailing equipment as well as funding towards the kitchen renovation at our Wilson Hall.

“The City of Canning grants program allows not for profit organisations like ourselves to buy/upgrade essential equipment”
